David Calland
The Singing Buckeyes' director, David Calland, began performing at the young age of five years old and sang in his forst Barbershop Quartet in High School. He studied Music Education at Bowling Green State University, earning spots in Men's Chorus, several Varsity Quartets, Collegiate Chorale, Opera productions, Summer Musical Theatre, and joined the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS). Since then, David has built an impressive resume as an international multi-medalist director and top tier quartet singer (Uptown Sound 2001 & 2002 International BHS SIlver Medalists and The Allies 2010 International Bronze Medalists).
David is a sought after coach , faculty member, and clinician at numerous Harmony College/University schools, distrct educational schools, district youth camps, and many district Top Gun Schools. He has also served in several administrative roles including the 2009-2010 President of the Johnny Appleseed District (JAD), elected to the BHS International Board of Directors in 2013, and he has led the JAD Top Gun School for nearly a decade.
He was awarded the JAD Director of the Year in 2002 and Coach of the Year in 1997 & 2006. He was certified as a BHS Master Director in 2012, and elected to the JAD Hall of Fame in 2015.
David's current quartet, Brouhaha, was recently crowned the 2023 Worldwide Barbershop Quartet Champions for SPPBSQSUS.
David is excited to be back home with The Singing Buckeyes.
